CLEVELAND, Ohio -- With just four days to spare, GOP officials on Thursday morning unveiled a list of "veterans, political outsiders, faith leaders" and Donald Trump who will speak at next week's Republican National Convention.
The GOP convention's theme is "Make America Great Again," Trump's campaign slogan, and will focus on national security, immigration, trade and jobs, convention officials said in a news release.
Among the group are plenty of former and current Republican elected officials, including a few of the presumptive nominee's vanquished opponents from the GOP primary.
Also included in the list released Thursday are four of Trump's children -- Donald Jr., Eric, Ivanka and Tiffany -- and Trump's wife, Melania.
Despite Trump having indicated that he would seek to choose sports stars as his convention speakers, the list contains only a couple of athletic figures. The most notable is Dana White, the president of UFC, the professional mixed-martial arts organization. Also appearing will be Natalie Gulbis, the professional golfer. The New York Times reported overnight that former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow would be a convention speaker, but his name did not appear on the list released Thursday by convention officials.
Notably absent is Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, who is said to be among the finalists to be Trump's pick for vice-presidential nominee. Unsurprisingly Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who has refused to endorse Trump, will not be speaking despite being the Republican governor of the state where the convention is taking place.
Five sitting Republican governors did make the cut -- Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, Florida Gov. Rick Scott, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
Convention officials still have not announced a schedule for the four-day event, which begins Monday at Quicken Loans Arena. Thursday's release of names is much later than in previous conventions -- for example, in 2012, officials planning that year's GOP convention in Tampa, Florida, released a list of speakers three weeks before the event began.
