Hillary Clinton joined the thousands celebrating the Pride Parade Sunday, marching for two blocks near the Stonewall Inn and waving a rainbow flag.
The presumptive Democratic nominee for president, sporting a teal pantsuit, was met with a warm reception from paradegoers, many of whom shouted “Hillary!”
Even Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio — who walked the rest of the route separately — joined Clinton’s entourage that also included Rev. Al Sharpton and New York City First Lady Chirlane McCray.
In recognition of the celebration, Clinton’s Twitter handle was changed to rainbow colors.
After the 20-minute walk Clinton left in her convoy without commenting to reporters.
The Clinton campaign also released a video of her staff sharing their experiences coming out and saying the fight for LGBT equality continues.
The mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando has put the issue of gay rights at the fore of the presidential campaign.
Following the slaughter of 49 at the gay nightclub, Clinton said “hate has absolutely no place in America.”
“Please know that you have millions of allies across our country. I am one of them. We will keep fighting for your right to live freely, openly and without fear,” Clinton said.
Her rival, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, has said he’s “the real friend” of the gay community.
Trump has said he is opposed to gay marriage and would consider nominating a justice to the Supreme Court who would seek to overrule the landmark decision recognizing same-sex marriage nationwide.
