It’s Hollywood’s most eye catching makeup trend.
Lady Gaga gave America the rockets’ red glare while singing “The Star Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl Sunday where she batted her patriotism in ruby eye shadow that perfectly matched her pants suit.

The popstar’s monochrome makeup-and-outfit look followed a slew of celebrities who showed off their statement shadow on the red carpet earlier this year. At last month’s Golden Globes, Olivia Wilde paired her gown with Merlot colored shadow while Lupita Nyong’o kept it pretty in purple shadow to go with her dress.
“It was trend in the 80s that is making its way back,” makeup artist Bobbi Brown tells the Daily News.
“Lady Gaga is Lady Gaga — you expect bold looks from her, and it’s important to remember that she had a professional makeup artist to help her pull it off,” she adds.
But for those living life off the red carpet, the bold look for your lids is a lot harder to pull off.

“I’m personally not the biggest fan of the look on most women. If you do decide to do it, use corrector and concealer under the eye to cover circles and darkness, and a black liner and very black mascara to create some dimension,” says Brown.
And if that’s too much to handle, Brown suggests making a smaller statement by finding a similar shade of lip color to match your outfit and keeping your eyes neutral.
Another easy way to wink at the beauty trend without fully committing is finding a matching eyeliner and applying it to the outline of your top and bottom lids.
Brave beauty gurus who want a full coat of the statement shadow should prime eye lids with a base coat first.
“Take a blending eye shadow brush and use a windshield wiper motion to apply over the top of the lid,” suggests makeup artist Bre Kali, who advises applying the shadow before foundation.
