KINGSTON >> Rondout Valley’s Victoria Ospina was named Most Valuable Player, while a quartet of players from Kingston High topped the first-team All-Star squad as selected by area field hockey coaches.
In addition, the Ganders’ Nanette Simione and Webutuck’s Hannah Peters were named co-Coaches of the Year.
Ospina, who received the Erin Shanley MVP award, was also named to the All-State team along with Ganders’ teammate Alexandra Mondini; Kingston’s Caroline Crump and Stephanie Douglas; Red Hook’s Alex Theisen and Spackenkill’s Katie Murray.
Also making the first team were Kingston’s Erin Connors and MaryKate Siegel; Rondout’s Miranda Davenport; Pine Plains’ Rachel Beam; Webutuck’s Jane Markonic and Pine Bush’s Mackenzie Mitchell.
Red Hook’s Ariana Padilla-Carerras, Shannon Yearwood and Marist Parr led the second-team selections, with Rondout’s Ashley Higby and Sophia Alter earning spots as well. Also making the second team were Kingston’s Maggie Stauble; Pine Plains’ Courtney Brenner; Ellenville’s Jackie Pinkerous; Rhinebeck’s Kiley Quackenbush; Webutuck’s Julia Butts and Dover’s Ashley Seiferheld.
Rondout’s Sarah Swift and Jillian Eggers led the third-team selections, with a pair of Pine Bush players – Maeve Magee and Meghan Deretchin – earning third-team nods.
Also making the third team were Kingston’s Rachel Volpe; Pine Plains’ Nicole Reilly; Red Hook’s Jessica Osterhoudt; Onteora’s Emma Russell; Ellenville’s Drew Bugna; Spackenkill’s Kayleigh Schneeberger and Webutuck’s Caroline Markonic.
Earning honorable mention honors were Kingston’s Jessica Staley; Rondout’s Makaylah Mutz; Pine Plains’ Riley Croghan; Red Hook’s Kaleigh DelGiudice; Onteora’s Hailey Mainieri; Rhinebeck’s Maggie Dull; Ellenville’s Erin Blauvelt; Pine Bush’s Brittany Vasquez; Webutuck’s Taylor Edmundson; Spackenkill’s Teresa Rokitowski and Dover’s Aichia Matmati.
Locally, Rondout, Kingston and Pine Plains had banner Section 9 seasons. The Ganders finished 16-2, winning both the Mid-Hudson Athletic League and Class B titles. The (15-3) Tigers captured their eighth consecutive Class A crown, while the (11-7) Bombers were champions in Class C.
All three teams fell in the regional finals: Kingston losing 4-0 to Mamaroneck; Rondout falling 6-0 to Lakeland; and Pine Plains losing 4-0 to Bronxville.
