LETTER: Kingston administrators should concentrate on educating, not their desire for new offices

Dear Editor,

Would you pay $5.9 million to move some furniture from one house you own to another house you own? That’s what the Kingston city schools district is suggesting. They want to move their offices from Crown Street to the vacant Meagher School building, property they already own.

But, wait, they would also want to extend prekindergarten into all the unused space, but they have no idea what that might cost if it ever would happen.

And the usual excuse, “but state aid will pay for it, hardly any cost to you”. But at this time they have no clue what, if any, state taxpayers will pay.

Don’t forget, you gave the money to the state in the first place so you aren’t getting a gift from Heaven.

Bottom line, sell the Cioni Building if that doesn’t satisfy your Dowton Abbey expectations. Move your desks into the unused Meagher Building classrooms and go about the business we’re paying you to do – educate students.
