Unemployment rates in all area counties were lower in April 2015 than a year earlier, the state Department of Labor reported Wednesday.

Ulster County’s jobless rate last month was 4.8 percent, down from 5.4 percent in April 2014, the department said. In Dutchess County, it said, unemployment fell from 5 percent in April 2014 to 4.5 percent in April 2015.

Columbia County had the second-lowest unemployment rate in the state last month, 4.1 percent, down from 4.5 percent in April 2014. The only county with a lower jobless rate last month was Tompkins (the Ithaca area), at 3.8 percent.

Hamilton County, in the Adirondacks, had the highest unemployment in the state last month, 10 percent.

The unemployment rates elsewhere in the Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskills last month, according to the labor department, were:

* 6.1 percent in Greene County, down from 6.8 percent in April 2014.

* 4.6 percent in Orange County, down from 5.1.

* 6 percent in Delaware County, down from 6.3.

* 5.8 in Sullivan County, down from 6.7.

The statewide jobless rate last month was 5.5 percent, down from 6.1 percent a year earlier, the department said.
