Ulster, Dutchess counties share NY state aid to cut gun violence

KINGSTON >> Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced Tuesday that law enforcement agencies in 17 counties, including Dutchess and Ulster, will share $13.3 million in funding as part of the state’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative.

The initiative requires the use of proven strategies to reduce shootings and firearm-related homicides in communities served by 20 police departments in those counties, according to a press release.

As part of the initiative, the Poughkeepsie Police Department, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office, and the Dutchess County Probation Office will share $341,211.

In addition, the Kingston Police Department, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ulster County Department of Probation will share $179,175 in funding under the program, according to the governor’s office.
