TOWN OF ULSTER >> The owners of Dallas Hot Wieners expect to have new spaces in the parking lot of their Lake Katrine location marked and ready for use within a month.

Neighbor Bob Henninger recently complained to town of Ulster officials that customers of the restaurant – which opened last year where U.S. Route 9W, Carle Terrace and Lake Road come together – were blocking traffic on Carle Terrace with their vehicles.

“That … parking lot has no lines and no curbing,” Henninger said at last week’s Town Board meeting. “So the cars that park on the Carle Terrace side stick out into the road three and four feet at times. …

“It’s mayhem … an accident waiting to happen,” he said. “… It’s really horrendous. It’s almost that we’re driving through the middle of a parking lot” while on the road.

“You never know who’s going to be standing there with a 2-year-old child, with a walker, eating a hot dog,” Henninger added. “There’s no obvious parking lot.”

The town of Ulster Planning Board approved the additional parking earlier this year, but Dallas co-owner Fred Tampasis said Tuesday that painting the lines for the new spaces has been delayed because contractors have been busy.

“It’s actually being done within the month,” Tampasis said. “… We’d have had them start it in March, but they told us they could only do it at this time, they were booked up.”

Tampasis, who is one of three owners of Dallas Hot Wieners, did not know how many spaces are being added. The minutes from the Planning Board meeting at which the space were approved also lack that information.

There are four other Dallas Hot Wieners locations – on North Front Street in Uptown Kingston, Broadway in Midtown Kingston, Main Street in Saugerties and South Pearl Street in Albany.
