CASTLETON >> Questar III BOCES’ proposed $5.8 million administrative budget for 2015-16 has been approved by the school boards in all 22 of its component districts in Columbia, Greene and Rensselaer counties.

The spending plan is $265,750, or 4.8, percent, larger than its 2014-15 counterpart.

The administrative budget is part of an overall $70 million Questar III BOCES budget for 2015-16. That’s about 6.6 percent larger than the 2014-15 budget.

School boards vote on only the administrative portions of BOCES budgets.

Questar III BOCES officials said most of the increase in the size of the administrative budget is the result of retiree benefits.

The overall budget for 2015-16 includes:

* $17.9 million for instructional salaries, up 1 percent from 2014-15.

* $15.1 million for career and technical education, down about 4.2 percent.

* $14.1 million for employee benefits, up 2.5 percent.

* $13.9 million for non-instructional salaries, up 10.6 percent.

* $4.1 million for education technology, down 37.1 percent.

* $2.3 million for professional development, down 32.3 percent.

The school boards also confirmed three Questar board members, each of whom will serve for three years: incumbent Carol Orvis of the East Greenbush school district, incumbent Paul Puccio of the Schodack school district and Frank Zwack of the Berlin school district.
