RHINEBECK >> Two Poughkeepsie men have been charged with stealing copper roofing material, roof sheeting and drip edge from the roof of a home and selling it at a local scrap yard, state police said Wednesday.

Clark P. Kozlek, 42, and Erik J. Jensen, 33, were arrested by state police at Rhinebeck on Tuesday and charged with the felonies of grand larceny and conspiracy.

“They just found the house and took the roof,” Trooper Melissa McMorris said. She said the roofing materials cost the alleged victim $20,000 when first installed more than 20 years ago.

The charges stem from a theft reported to state police on March 19 in which the complainants reported their copper roofing material was removed and then stolen from their house, police said. The cost to repair the roof is expected to exceed $139,000, according to McMorris.

Kozlek and Jensen were arraigned in Hyde Park Town Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
