RHINEBECK >> A driver was hospitalized Tuesday after a one-car accident on state Route 308, according to a Rhinebeck Fire Department spokesman.

The driver struck a utility pole near 982 Route 308 about 3:30 p.m., said the he department’s information officer, Henry A. Campbell.

The driver was removed from the car by passing motorists and carried across the road before firefighters and paramedics arrived, Campbell said. He said the driver then was taken by ambulance to the MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

The driver’s name, age, gender and medical condition were not immediately available.

The road near the accident scene was closed for about four hours, and the impact with the utility pole knocked out electrical, cable TV and phone service in the area, Campbell said.
