KINGSTON >> A Kingston woman who allegedly broke a glass door at an Uptown bar and later punched a cop after slipping out of handcuffs is facing numerous charges, city police said Friday.

Virginia Valdez, 41, was arrested by Kingston police at 3:11 a.m. and charged with assault, criminal mischief, escape, false personation and obstructing governmental administration, all misdemeanors.

Police said they responded to a report of an “unruly patron” at Snapper Magee’s, 59 North Front St., who was impaired by alcohol and involved in a fight. As they “escorted her from the premises,” Valdez refused to leave the area, according to Detective Lt. Thierry Croizer.

She then kicked a glass door at the bar, shattering it, Croizer said.

While Valdez was being taken to city police headquarters on Garraghan Drive, she slipped out of her handcuffs and attacked Officer Jason Charest, striking him in the face with the cuffs, Crozier said.

Charest suffered cuts to his face and was treated at HealthAlliance Hospital’s Broadway Campus and released.

Police said Valdez continued to be combative once she got to their headquarters and fought with officers, refusing to be fingerprinted. She further gave false information about her identity, police said.

Croizer said additional charges might be filed.

Following her arraignment, Valdez was sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
