ALBANY, N.Y. – SUNY New Paltz Associate Vice President Gerald Benjamin has been mentioned as a candidate for the New York State Board of Regents, which sets state public education policy.

State Sen. John Bonacic, R-Mount Hope, supports the educator, a former Republican member of the Ulster County Legislature.

The senator said Benjamin has “devoted his professional life to serving the people of New York state.”

Bonacic noted Benjamin serves as associate vice president for regional engagement and the director of the Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach at SUNY New Paltz.

Bonacic said, with Benjamin’s “depth of knowledge regarding New York state government, he will be an asset to the New York State Board of Regents.”
