KINGSTON >> Repairs were completed Wednesday on a pipe that ruptured causing a water outage to a city firehouse, according to Water Deparmtent Superintendent Judith Hansen.

Hansen said the firehouse on Frog Alley was without water as repair crews worked to fix a break in a six-inch wide main.

Hansen said the break was discovered about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The break sent water out on the street.

Hansen said about 45,000 gallons of water leaked out before water was shut off from the pipe which was installed in 1972.

In addition to the firehouse, the Frog Alley property where two businesses sit across the street was also without water, Hansen said.

The repair was to completed by Wednesday night, Hansen said.

When the pipe burst on Tuesday it caused some water discoloration and low pressure, according to the department.

The department said there was no emergency and the water was safe to drink at the time.

“However, we wanted all of our customers in the City of Kingston to know that, due to a water main break on Frog Alley in Uptown Kingston, you may have experienced discolored water or a brief drop in water pressure,” the department said in a statement. “The break has been isolated and system pressures are back to normal.

“The incident began at about 5:30 p.m. and lasted for about 30 minutes.”

The department advised water users that to clear their plumbing, they should run facets for a few minutes.
