BOICEVILLE >> Onteora school district Superintendent Phyllis McGill has withdrawn from contention to be the next superintendent of the Cohoes school district, near Albany.

She was one of four people being considered for the job.

McGill, 58, said Monday that the timetable to meet contract obligations in Onteora was at odds a schedule being set by Cohoes board members.

“My contract requires 90 days’ notice, and [Cohoes officials] are still not done with the interview process,” she said.

“It was going to [take] up until late February, and they wanted the person to start April 1 and possibly sooner,” McGill said. “So it was just getting too tight.”

McGill also said an illness in her family would make it difficult to continue with the interview process and possibly begin a new job.

“It was too much, too fast,” she said. “So I did withdraw.”

McGill said last week that she applied for the Cohoes job after the Onteora school board declined to extend her contract.

McGill, who’s been at the Onteora helm for four years, is paid $150,000 per year and has a year-and-a-half left on her current deal.

She previously was director of pupil personnel services for the Katonah-Lewisboro school district.
