SHANDAKEN >> The Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program announced on Friday the completion of two major projects restoring 1,620 fee of stream in the town of Shandaken.

The projects, with combined costs of $2.6 million, were designed to protect key roadways and water quality in the New York City drinking water supply.

Funding for the projects included $1.7 million from the federal Emergency Watershed Protection program that is administered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services, and $909,500 from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.

Ulster County Soil and Water Conservation District helped the town to secure the EWP funding.

The projects allowed the DEP to fulfill a state requirement to fund two environmental benefit projects in the Ashokan watershed this year.

One of the projects occurred at the Stony Clove Creek and Warner Creek confluence, while the other was located at Stony Clove Creek along Stony Clove Lane.
