POUGHKEEPSIE >> A Poughkeepsie woman who is an inmate at the Dutchess County Jail has been charged with identity theft, according to state police in Highland.

Police said Debra M. Briceno, 43, of Poughkeepsie, was charged Thursday as the result of an investigation into a stolen credit card and transactions made on the card, allegedly by Briceno.

Police said Briceno is accused of using the card on two separate occasions to make purchases in the city of Poughkeepsie in August.

Briceno was charged with forgery and criminal possession of stolen property, both felonies, and identity theft, a misdemeanor.

She was in the Dutchess County Jail on unrelated charges and is scheduled to appear in Poughkeepsie City Court to answer to the latest charges on Monday.
