KINGSTON >> A snow-covered country lane. The Highland riverfront in the fall. A faraway view of the Shawngunk ridge, with a bin filled with apples from the fall harvest in the foreground.

These are a few of the scenes depicted in the 12 photographs selected as finalists in the 2015 County Directory Photo contest.

Ulster County Legislature John Parete, D-Boiceville, launched the contest in May, asking county residents to submit photographs depicting the fun activities and beautiful scenic vistas the county offers.

Residents answered that call, and then some, submitting more than 150 photographs.

“We were blown away by how many entrants we got,” said Deputy Legislature Clerk Fawn Tantillo. “There’s a lot of truly stunning pictures that beautifully represent probably every corner of Ulster County.”

Tantillo said among those submitting photos were a 12-year-old and several high school students.

A committee comprised of county legislators, legislative staff members and visitors to the Ulster County Legislature’s offices selected 12 finalists.

Now, Parete is once again is reaching out to county residents – this time, to help choose a winner.

Parete is asking residents to vote for their favorite photograph between now and 9 a.m. on Dec. 10.

The top three photographs selected by popular vote will then be submitted to judges, who will make a final selection.

The finalists and the winner will be announced in December.

The winning photograph will adorn the cover of the Ulster County Legislature’s 2015 directory, which contains contact and other information for all elected officials in Ulster County and its towns, as well as county departments, and state and federal leaders.

Tantillo said, the photos not selected for the cover will be used in a calendar that will be distributed to those who submitted photos in the contest.
