HIGHMOUNT >> The significant snowfall that’s forecast for Wednesday and Thursday won’t compel the Belleayre Mountain Ski Center to offer Thanksgiving skiing, its general manager said Tuesday.

Belleayre remains on track to open for the season on Friday, according to Tom Tar.

The anticipated first major storm of the season could dump more than a foot of snow on Belleayre, forecasters have predicted, but “no, will not open on Thanksgiving Day,” Tar said.

Belleayre opened two slopes for skiing this past weekend, thanks to a cold snap allowing the facility to make snow, and “we did pretty good,” Tar said.

The approaching storm is expected to dump between 6 and 16 inches of snow on the region, with the highest accumulations in elevated areas.

Tar said the snow will be worth its weight in gold from a public relations standpoint.

“Skiers are very happy,” he said.
