“La Cage Aux Folles,” the acclaimed Broadway musical, opens a nine-performance run Friday, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m. at The Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck, 661 Route 308, Rhinebeck.

“La Cage Aux Folles” features the bawdy humor of Harvey Fierstein and the melodic genius of Jerry Herman. The story focuses on a gay couple: Georges, the manager of a Saint-Tropez nightclub featuring drag entertainment; and Albin, his romantic partner and star attraction. Farcical adventures ensue when Georges’s son, Jean-Michel, brings home his fiancee’s ultra-conservative parents to meet them.

“La Cage” is an outrageously funny and touching story of family values, love, diversity and acceptance. The original Broadway production won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book . It inspired the hit film “The Birdcage,” starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. The recent 2010 Broadway revival, starring Kelsey Grammer, was nominated for 11 Tony Awards and won Best Revival of a Musical.

This production stars Michael Britt, Corey Crysler, Joe Eriole, Josie Eriole, Allison Fuqua, Bobby Greffrath, Lisa Lynds, Richard Prouse and Bill Ross. It is directed and choreographed by Kevin Archambault, with music direction by Cheryl Engelhardt. It is produced by Diana di Grandi for Up In One Productions.

Additional 8 p.m. shows will be Feb. 28, March 6, 7, 13 and 14. There will also be 3 p.m. Sunday performances on March 1, 8 and 15.

Tickets prices are $27 and $25.
