Best Northeast Colleges 2015

This article is more than 8 years old.

From Ivies and liberal arts colleges to research institutions and military academies, many of the very best colleges in the U.S. -- and the world for that matter -- are in the Northeast. The region is home to the nation’s oldest and most prestigious institutions, who, not coincidentally, are also ranked highest on FORBES’ annual Top Colleges list.

Located in Williamstown, MA, Williams College is No. 2 on FORBES’ Top Colleges ranking and takes the top spot in the Northeast once again. After Williams, New Jersey’s Princeton University, Yale University in New Haven, CT, Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, and Swarthmore College located right outside Philadelphia, PA, round out the top five in the region.

Further down the list, liberal arts colleges, like Wesleyan University (CT) and Tufts University (MA), hold their own against Ivy League schools like Dartmouth College (NH) and Columbia University (NY). The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY, and the United States Naval academy in Annapolis, MD, also continue their tradition of excellence. According to the FORBES 2015 ranking, eight of the top 10  schools in the nation and half of the top 50 are located in the Northeast.

Whether passing through ivy-covered buildings and other architectural gems, or enjoying  the region’s four distinct seasons students who study at institutions across the Northeast are obtaining the quintessential college experience and acquiring some of the most coveted diplomas in the world.
