How effective are your diversity communications? Today I’m going to share a brand new film with you that’s been launched to support Deloitte’s Respect and Inclusion plan.
‘Ask yourself…’ was made to encourage everyone at Deloitte to think about their personal responsibility to treat people with respect. Deloitte provide professional services to industry and government in the UK.
I think the short film has been done incredibly well and like the fact it challenges typical assumptions you find in the workplace.
You can watch it online and below.
It was launched on 6 July with this Tweet:
Respect and inclusion are the foundations for true diversity. What does this mean to us? http://t.co/u0xT0WERZC

Putting diversity at the heart of strategy
The firm says respect and inclusion are at the heart of their talent strategy, and that they’re working hard to ensure that their talent pool is diverse and reflects the make-up of today’s society.
Their website states: “We want to show that everyone can thrive, develop and succeed in our firm based on their talent, regardless of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or any other dimension that can be used to differentiate people from one another.”
Matthew Gale, @Matt_JGale, (pictured), Internal Communications Manager at Deloitte UK told me: “We’re working hard to ensure we provide a working environment where everyone feels able to be themselves and can thrive, develop and succeed.
“An environment in which our people are recognised and respected for their own strengths, values and perspectives. We believe that it is only within such an environment that our people can truly be at their best. (Tweet this)
“We know that creating an inclusive environment is not a challenge unique to Deloitte; by uploading the film to YouTube and allowing people to share it with others, we hope to inspire them on their own Respect and Inclusion journeys.”
How has it been communicated so far?
Matthew says: “The film was used to launch and raise awareness to the firm’s Respect & Inclusion plan, which outlines the measures we are taking to ensure that we provide an inclusive working environment with respect at its core.
“We launched on Monday lunchtime through a number of channels including intranet article, firm-wide video platform, Yammer, Service Line leader email, a series of posters and digital signage. Engagement so far has been high with lots of views on our video platform and comments on Yammer. The film will also be shown at all new joiner inductions and a series of senior leadership workshops.”
