A mother allegedly stabbed multiple times in Monument on Friday by her 11-year-old son remains hospitalized in stable condition, authorities said Monday.
The boy, who is being treated at a Denver hospital, is also in stable condition, the El Paso County sheriff’s office said. Authorities say after the stabbing he either jumped or fell from the third-story window of their townhome.
The identities of the two have not been released.
“The investigation is still ongoing,” Jacqueline Kirby, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman, said.
Kirby said that further information in the case could not immediately be released.
An emergency call was made from their townhome just outside Monument — about 20 miles north of Colorado Springs — at 5:25 p.m. Friday, officials say.
When deputies arrived, they found the mother and the boy on the driveway.
“The mother had been stabbed multiple times,” Kirby said over the weekend. “It appears the boy either fell or jumped out of the third-story window. It was at least 30 feet.”
Officials say it is unclear whether the mother or a neighbor called 911. After the boy stabbed his mother, she searched for the boy and found him on the pavement, Kirby said.
The woman and her son were the only two people who lived in the townhome and the only two inside when the incident took place.
The sheriff’s office has not said what led up to the stabbing.
The county district attorney’s office will determine if charges will be filed and whether the boy will be charged as an adult, officials said.
