How to Turn Off Facebook’s Pesky Live Video Notifications

If it doesn't involve you, you probably don't want a notification about it. Here's how to opt-out.

Facebook believes the best way of promoting Facebook Live Video is to notify you about it. Constantly. And so you get a notification whenever someone you're connected to uses Live Video. You probably have hundreds, if not thousands, of friends, bands, brands, and pages you follow. The incessant notifications can quickly get out of hand.

Yes, Facebook Live is great. But Zuck broke the first rule of notifications: Unless someone is directly mentioned in a post, it is best to let them opt-in, not make them opt-out. If you're ready to scream, "Enough with the notifications," there is a way out, but you have to dig for it.

Or you can just let us show you how to do it.

Turn Off Live Video Notifications

On the top menu bar in the far right corner, click on the upside-down triangle to reveal a dropdown menu. Midway down, you'll see "Settings." Click it, then find Notificationson the left.

From there, you can toggle each notification based on where you're checking your account: from Facebook.com, the mobile app, email, or via text message.

Click the first item, "On Facebook," and it will expand into a list. Down at the bottom you'll find the settings for Live Videos notifications. You can turn off all notifications, or just the Suggestions, which are Live Videos that Facebook thinks you'll like. If you choose "Suggestions Off," you'll still receive notifications from people and brands you follow.

If you want to make sure you never hear about a Live Video that doesn't appear in your News Feed, choose "All Off." If you receive emails about live videos, changing this setting should stop those, too.

Here's to one less frivolous alert! Happy Interneting. Oh, and while you're there, follow WIRED on Facebook. We're great!
