Aid to Nepal: Following the Money

International aid is pouring in to Nepal in the wake of the two recent earthquakes there. The country - one of the poorest in the world - has been devastated, with 8000 people killed and thousands injured. Much of the country’s infrastructure - hospitals, schools, roads - has been destroyed or badly damaged. Many buildings are so unsafe that people are sleeping out on the streets with no idea when they will be able to rebuild their homes.

Simon Cox investigates whether the urgent needs of the people of Nepal will be met by the relief effort. In a country known for its corruption, how can we be sure that the billions of dollars coming into Nepal will end up in the right place?
