The latest addition to Outlander‘s Season 2 cast is a real giant in Hollywood. (Well, a half-giant.)
Frances de la Tour, known for her portrayal of towering Beauxbatons headmistress/half-giantess Madame Maxime in the Harry Potter films, will play Mother Hildegarde in upcoming episodes of the Starz series, the network announced Tuesday.
Frances De La Tour is intelligent and commanding, which is why she’ll make a great Mother Hildegarde! #Outlander pic.twitter.com/2J9ZPeHflw

Mother Hildegarde is the commanding Mother Superior of Paris’ L’Hopital des Anges. Claire spends a significant amount of time at the hospital in Dragonfly in Amber, the Diana Gabaldon novel on which Season 2 is based.
The Tony-winning actress’ credits also include roles in the movies Into the Woods and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, the ITV series Vicious and the BBC One comedy Big School.
In May, series co-executive producer Maril Davis tweeted that Outlander had cast Mother Hildegarde’s pooch, Bouton, who is her constant companion in the book.
Other new cast members include Stanley Weber (Agatha Christie: Poirot) as Le Comte St. Germain, Robert Cavanah (Hatfields & McCoys) as Jared Fraser, Dominique Piñon (Alien: Resurrection) as Master Raymond, Rosie Day (Homefront) as Mary Hawkins, French actress Margaux Chatelier as Annalise de Marillac, Marc Duret (the La Femme Nikita film) as Joseph Duverney, Laurence Dobiesz (ITV’s The Bill) as Alex Randall and French actress Claire Sermonne as Louise de Rohan.
She’s absolutely hilarious in Vicious. Can’t wait for it to come back!
Damn it, just when I’d decided it wasn’t worth continuing…
The best is still to come especially if they get to do Voyager book 3. The casting crew are doing a fantastic job and the wait for series 2 is going to be torture.
Cannot understand why you were ready to give up on such an excellent drama series.
When is the US release of season 2 episode #17 ??? Thanks.
BTW…… Outlander is one of THEE best TV series! Thanks to; Ronald D. Moore; Tall Ship Productions
Story Mining & Supply Co; Left Bank Pictures (Productions); Sony Pictures Television (in association with TayScreen Scotland (Film Locations). Not forgetting the oracle that is… Diana Gabaldon and all people involved to transform this excellent story from paper to TV. All of you… please keep up the good work! :-) I’m looking forward to Series 2 (aka episode #17)

Perfect! What amazingly spot on casting!
Outlander writers, take note! This woman can deliver a line…
“History is a commentary on the various and continuing incapabilities of men. What is history? History is women following behind with the bucket. ”
Give her great ones.
