Every statewide official and congressman representing Arkansas is a Republican, but faculty and staff at the state’s flagship university collectively are the most liberal political donors in the Southeastern Conference.

University of Arkansas employees have donated proportionally more to Democrats since 1990 than employees at any other SEC school — $621,100 to Democrats, versus $90,400 to Republicans, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation analysis of OpenSecrets.org data. University of South Carolina employees came in second, giving $512,700 to Democrats, versus $114,000 to Republicans.

Professors and administrators at the 14 SEC institutions, living in some of the deepest red states, have donated $5.7 million to Democrats, compared to $3.5 million to Republicans over the last 25 years.

Mississippi State University employees, the least politically active, gave the most proportionally to Republicans. They donated $9,100 to Democrats, versus $37,200 to Republicans.

Vanderbilt University, the smallest SEC school with just 12,700 undergraduate and graduate students, has the most politically active employees. They’ve donated $918,200 to Democrats and $710,300 to Republicans.

Faculty and staff at the University of Alabama were the most equitable in their political donations, sending $467,800 to Democrats, versus $471,600 to Republicans. Auburn University employees were also even-handed with their money, giving $61,700 to Democrats, and $66,000 to Republicans.
