Prince once kicked Kim Kardashian off stage and took out a magazine advert to find a girlfriend.

Despite rarely giving interviews the musician, who's died at the age of 57, was known for his sense of humour and strong character.

He would challenge other stars to basketball games in his stage clothes, he had a private hair salon in his house and he sometimes turned up at record sales to destroy bootleg versions of his albums.

Here are five times the singer did something unexpected.

He kicked Kim Kardashian off stage

During a gig at New York's Madison Square Garden in 2011, Prince pulled the reality TV star onstage to dance with him.

She was going out with Kris Humphries back then but froze when she got next to the singer.

Prince obviously got bored and told her to leave the stage.

All was forgiven the following night though when she got up on stage again - and this time she danced.

He appeared on the Muppets

Prince was a private man and didn't go on TV a lot during his career for interviews or guest appearances.

But he did feature on Muppet Tonight in 1997.

Known at the time as The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, he appeared in the sketches and sang a few songs, including a version of Starfish And Coffee from his album, Sign o' the Times.

And he was also totally cool on New Girl

Prince's cameo on New Girl was broadcast straight after the Super Bowl in 2014.

During his scene he announces himself to Zooey Deschanel (Jess) and Jake Johnson (Nick), who can't think what to say to him.

In true Prince style he just said: "How rude of me. I haven't given you enough to freak out yet. You may do so now."

He took out an advert to find a girlfriend

In the Christmas editions of a few US magazines in 1993, Prince actually had an advert printed to try to find a lady.

Next to an obscured photo of him said the text: "Eligible bachelor seeks the most beautiful girl in the world to spend the holidays with."

Potential suitors were asked to send in photos and videos.

It appears he had no luck, because he married his back-up singer Mayte Garcia three years later. They divorced in 1999.

He did a BBC interview without saying a word

It's 1995 and the BBC's Veronica Webb is doing an interview for the Sunday Show.

Except Prince has other ideas.

Wearing a mask "to cover his ugly face" he then responds to questions through one of his entourage.
