WATERVLIET, N.Y. -- Employees at the Watervliet Arsenal got some first-hand experience in disaster preparedness.

A hazmat drill was held Thursday simulating four different potential emergency scenarios -- a sulfur dioxide leak, chlorine spill, oil leak and a rescue, all related to a terror attack.

Dozens of first responders from several local agencies were involved in the drill.

"The challenge that we often have in a real world situation is how do we integrate and synchronize that capability and communicate, across in this situation four counties. And that's what these exercises do for us. It allows us to do that integration and synchronization. So at the end of the day we're better prepared for real word situations," said John Snyder, Watervliet Arsenal Public Affairs officer

The Arsenal runs this drill every year, and said they try to expand it every time it's done.
