SINGAPORE — The PAP Women’s Wing has rolled out a financial education programme for women to help them understand the basics of financial planning, with a special focus on retirement needs.

Despite improvements in women’s participation in the labour force over the years, there remains “a significant gap between women’s lifetime earnings and savings as compared to men’s”, said Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State (Health and Manpower) who is spearheading this programme.

She added: “At the same time, women have longer life expectancy than men. It is therefore all the more important for women to gain a good grasp of financial planning principles, and learn how to make full use of government schemes designed to boost retirement adequacy.”

The programme, named Top Up With Love, also wants to to impart knowledge about the range of government schemes available to help women boost their retirement adequacy, such as CPF top-ups, housing monetisation and Silver Support Scheme.

It will comprise two modules lasting two hours each and will begin in June this year with the training of about 100 activists. They will learn the course curriculum and content, and later on help to organise the programme at their respective GRCs or SMCs for women living in these areas.

The programme was announced at the PAP Women’s Wing’s 3rd Annual Conference today (April 18), where more than 330 women activists and women Members of Parliament gathered to review recent progress in the Women’s Wing’s work.
