UFC 184 fight time, TV schedule, who is fighting tonight at 'Rousey vs Zingano'

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) history will be made tonight (Sat., Feb. 28, 2015) in Los Angeles, California as the Staples Center plays host to the enticing UFC 184 pay-per-view (PPV) card spotlighting the women's 135-pound division, and its dominant champion Ronda Rousey.

Below is everything you need to know to stay on top of the highly anticipated PPV event.

Why It Matters: Just a few years ago UFC President Dana White was infamously quoted stating that women would never fight in the Octagon. Fast forward to the current state of UFC, and not only do women fight inside the Octagon, but there are two separate women's divisions! UFC women's 135-pound champ Ronda Rousey was the catalyst for every other woman who has stepped foot inside the Octagon, for if it was not for "Rowdy," UFC may still not have women fighting to this day. The truly incredible part? Both the main and co-main event on this evening's PPV will feature women's fights, and that is nothing to scoff at.

What's Hot: The women's bantamweight title fight between Ronda Rousey vs Cat Zingano. How in the world could you not be over the moon for this fight? Pitting arguably the best champion in UFC today in Rousey against her toughest challenge in Zingano must get your heart rate pumping a bit right?! Two undefeated women at the top of their game will throw down tonight in what many hope will be an epic showdown, and these are moments MMA fans must cherish.

What's Not: Let's not sugarcoat this, UFC 184 was an event crippled by injuries, and even though UFC brass did a solid job of putting together a quality PPV event with their hands tied behind their back, there is no question the buys will be significantly lower than it would have been if the other scheduled marquee bouts were not scratched. In the end, three of the five originally scheduled main card bouts did not make it to the Staples Center tonight (more on that below).

Original Card vs Actual Card:

The injury bug seemed determined to have UFC brass cancel this event -- which would have been the second canceled event planned for the Staples Center.

The most unfortunate injury came to UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman, as he was forced to withdraw from his scheduled main event title defense against No. 1 contender Vitor Belfort just about a month before the scheduled affair. That fight has since been rescheduled to the incredibly stacked UFC 187.

As if the "All American's" injury wasn't bad enough, the potential No. 1 contender's bout in the middleweight division was scrapped from the card when Ronaldo Souza fell ill with pneumonia prior to his scheduled bout against Yoel Romero. "Jacare" will now take on the Olympic wrestler in the co-main event of UFC on FOX 15.

More injures? Yes... More injuries.

Caio Magalhaes was set to face off against Mark Munoz in the "Prelims" main event, but an injury to the Brazilian forced UFC to give Roan Carneiro another crack inside the Octagon.

Yancy Medeiros was given a huge opportunity when he was matched up with Tony Ferguson for the PPV card, but an injury to the Hawaiian gave UFC veteran Gleison Tibau the opportunity to take the fight on short notice.

Other changes not related to injuries included moving the Frank Mir vs Antonio Silva heavyweight clash to UFC Fight Night 61 (highlights here), and Neil Magny being pulled from his scheduled bout against Josh Koscheck in favor of his UFC Fight Night 60 collision against Kiichi Kunimoto.

New Blood:

-- Holly Holm (vs. Raquel Pennington): The highly touted former world boxing champion makes her highly anticipated UFC debut this evening against the very durable Raquel Pennington in the UFC 184 co-main event. Holm is currently undefeated in her MMA career, boasting a 7-0 record with six knockouts.

-- Alexander Torres (vs. Masio Fullen): Torres was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Latin America, and "Rolo" is getting his opportunity to earn a UFC roster spot this evening on the "Prelims." Torres is 2-1 in his MMA career, finishing his last two opponents via (technical) knockout.

-- Masio Fullen (vs. Alexander Torres): Fullen was also a TUF Latin America contestant, and he too will search for his first Octagon victory tonight. "Lobo" is 9-4 in his MMA career, earning five submission victories alongside three (technical) knockouts.

How The "Prelims" Look: These are not the worst or best set of "Prelims" you will ever see, but UFC brass did provide a few name fighters for the FOX Sports 1 televised fights.

Fight fans get treated to Mark Munoz, the return of Japanese MMA legend Norifumi Yamamoto, an intriguing heavyweight tilt between the heavy handed Derrick Lewis and Ruan Potts, among many others.

Ultimately, this "Prelims" card will have to be looked back in hindsight to really determine how good it was. On paper it certainly seems like nothing special, but if the fights deliver than no one really cares after the fact.

Who Needs A Win Badly: This portion is reserved for fighters who could be fighting for their jobs tonight, rather than contenders or title challengers needing victory. Let's take a look at those who need to pull it together:

-- Josh Koscheck (vs. Jake Ellenberger): Josh Koscheck has not fought in well over a year following his vicious knockout loss to top-ranked Tyron Woodley. The former No. 1 contender has fallen on some hard times in his MMA career, losing three straight -- including two knockout losses in a row. While I doubt UFC brass cuts Koscheck with a loss at UFC 184, it would certainly serve the TUF veteran well to win tonight.

-- Jake Ellenberger (vs. Josh Koscheck): Jake Ellenberger does not have the same luxuries as Josh Koscheck. Considering Koscheck was a former title challenger and inaugural TUF veteran, UFC brass likely want to keep him around. As for Ellenberger, the "Juggernaut" has turned into a shell of his former self, looking far too timid during his three fight losing streak. If Ellenberger loses tonight, he will be fighting in Bellator before year's end.

-- Ruan Potts (vs. Derrick Lewis): UFC brass are certainly not looking to cut any heavyweights considering how shallow the division is, but Potts has proved to be little more than a punching bag in his UFC stint thus far. Following two knockout losses, a third tonight at the hands of Derrick Lewis will likely mark the end of his Octagon career.

-- Mark Munoz (vs. Roan Carneiro): Munoz has simply not looked good in a very long time. The "Filipino Wrecking Machine" has been the nail in his last handful of fights -- barring his dominant victory over Tim Boetsch at UFC 162. If Munoz can not defeat Carneiro this evening, he likely won't be fighting for UFC much longer.

Interest Level: 6/10

UFC 184 is yet another top-heavy PPV, but ultimately I am very intrigued to watch the main and co-main event tonight. Ronda Rousey is simply a can't miss fighter, and she alone would be reason enough to tune in to this evening's event.

As for the rest of the card, there is nothing that gets me giddy with excitement, but definitely be sure to watch out for Alan Jouban, Derrick Lewis, and Tony Ferguson.

Overall, I think Los Angeles will be in for a pleasant surprise as tonight's PPV event delivers non-stop action.
