Travel Funds for Uranium Symposium

Donation protected
The Indigenous Peoples of northern Saskatchewan have been on the front lines in the battle against uranium mining for over 60 years. Beneath Denesuline and Nehithaw territory in northern Saskatchewan lies some of the most easily accessible and highest grade uranium ore in the world. Unfortunately, this ore and its byproducts has resulted in devastating consequences for people all over the world; from the creation of nuclear weaponry, depleted uranium in warfare, nuclear meltdowns, tailings ponds and nuclear waste, the cost of Saskatchewan's uranium has been high.

In 2009, the Committee for Future Generations was formed to fight against the creation of a high-level nuclear waste repository in northern Saskatchewan. Although the Nuclear Waste Management Organization withdrew its plans to build a nuclear waste repository on our traditional territories (due for sure to the concerted effort of the Committee and its allies! Woohoo!), we still face the reality of having over a third of the world's uranium removed from northern Saskatchewan.

Candyce Paul, Marius Paul and Kirstin Scansen of the Committee for Future Generations hope to attend the World Uranium Symposium in Québec City, Québec, Canada from April 14-16. Candyce and Kirstin will be delivering presentations to the audience on first hand perspectives of the radioactive colonialism in northern Saskatchewan. Kirstin will be live on social media documenting each presentation and lesson in order to educate community members who would other wise not have access to the information presented at the conference.

The Committee members are seeking funds for airfare costs, hostel stays, train rides and food costs.

Any and all assistance in covering these costs would be incredible and amazing. We would be most grateful for the opportunity to educate ourselves further and to spread our message with others facing similar struggles throughout the world.
