Lotteries Open for Affordable Units Starting at $882 a Month in Williamsburg, Bushwick

Lotteries are now open for 11 affordable units at two new developments that include affordable housing, one in Williamsburg and the other in Bushwick.

In Williamsburg, applications are now open for nine newly constructed affordable units at 11 Jackson Street, a few blocks from the Metropolitan Avenue G station and the Lorimer Street L stop.

There are three studios renting for $882 a month, four one-bedrooms renting for $945 a month, and two two-bedrooms renting for $1,134 a month.

Eligible studio applicants must have a single-person household making between $30,240 to $38,100 a year, eligible one-bedroom applicants must have a one- to two-person family making between $32,400 and $43,500 a year, and eligible two-bedroom applicants must have a two- to four-person family making between $38,880 and $54,360 a year.

The development includes recreational space, bicycle storage, parking, a gym and laundry facilities, the latter of which is only available with an extra fee.

According to the development’s new building permits, the structure is eight stories tall. The architect is Karl Fischer, a prolific ‘Burg architect who is also currently working on a mixed-use rental building in Bed Stuy.

The lottery is accepting applications through July 13.

The second lottery is for two units in a newly constructed four-story building off the Flushing Avenue J and M stop at 103 Varet Street in the Bushwick loft district — an area the city considers to be East Williamsburg.

Both units are one-bedrooms renting for $947 a month to one-person households making between $32,469 and $38,100 annually or two-person households making between $32,469 and $43,500 annually.

The lottery is accepting applications through July 11.

Both the lotteries will set aside a percentage of units for mobility-disabled applicants and vision- or hearing-disabled applicants, and give preference to residents of Community Board 1 and municipal employees.

Before construction, the lots in Williamsburg and Bushwick were both occupied by one-story warehouses.
