Our Candy Crushes: Mama's Nuts Mocha Stout Almonds

By Melissa McEwen in Food on Mar 30, 2015 6:45PM

Remember Cocoa Crispies? That unapologetically candy-like chocolate puffed rice cereal that turned your milk into chocolate milk? Well, we've found a snack that's like that, except for more adult tastes that yearn for slightly less sugar and a bit more bitter and salt. Enter Mocha Stout Almonds by Mama's Nuts.

Mama's Nuts is the brainchild of Adrienne Lo of Fat Rice fame and they sell a variety of both sweet and savory nuts coated with pure deliciousness. Our current favorite, these mocha stout almonds, are liberally dusted with cane sugar, Irish stout, cocoa, coffee, salt and Irish cream liqueur. The cocoa and coffee give it that adult bitter-sweet flavor we crave, while the salt adds an intriguing savory element. But it's the Irish stout and liqueur that take us back to our childhood bowls of cereal. The bag will be gone before you know it.

Grab a bag online or at a variety of local retailers like Perman Wines, Green Grocer, Southport Grocery and The Goddess and The Grocer. See a full list on their website.

Our Candy Crushes is a series focused on the most delicious of locally made candy.
