One Navy SEAL died Friday and another was in critical condition after an accident in a pool at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek in Virginia.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, Lt. David Lloyd, a spokesman for Naval Special Warfare Group 2 said, the Virginian-Pilot reported Saturday.

Mr. Lloyd confirmed that both men were SEALs and said that dive training was not being conducted at the time.

The men were exercising at the Combat Swimmer Training Facility when the accident occurred, according to a statement released Friday. The men were found unresponsive at the bottom of the indoor pool.

They were taken to Sentara facilities where medical personnel pronounced one dead and said the other was in critical condition, according to the release.

“This tragic loss is very unfortunate and our thoughts and our prayers are with the families, friends and Teammates during this very difficult time,” Capt. Pete Vasely, commander for Group 2 said in a news release.
