LIBRARY LINE: Festive fun

Article content

As the weather gets colder and there is snow on the ground, why not bring your children to the Belleville Public Library to celebrate the holiday season?
For two weeks, beginning on Nov. 30, we will be running ‘Festive Fun’ storytime programs. Come by to start getting into the holiday spirit.
On Monday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. we will have Toddlertime programs for children ages 18 months to three-years-old. On Dec. 2, 3, 9 and 10 (Wednesday and Thursday mornings) at 10 a.m. we will have Preschool Storytime for children ages three to five-years-old. We will also have a Babytime program running on Thursday mornings (Dec. 3 and 10) at 11 a.m. for babies up to 18 months. All of these programs will be celebrating the upcoming holidays with lots of stories, songs and festive fun.
Do you have older children who want to participate in our festive fun programs? If you have children ages three and up, be sure to come by for our Craft Saturday programs to create fun holiday crafts. On Saturday, Dec. 5 at 10:30 a.m. we have a Mini Gingerbread House program, where children will have the opportunity to make their own mini gingerbread house, or families can work together to create an entire gingerbread village. On Saturday, Dec. 12 at 10:30 a.m. we will be holding a Create and Decorate program. Come out to make some fun holiday crafts and also to listen to local author Ann Hill read her new holiday children’s story “Picky Pete the Ugly Dragon”.
Our Junior Club will also be celebrating the holiday season by creating and decorating gingerbread houses this year. Children ages 7-12 are invited to come to the library on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. to learn how to build gingerbread houses out of graham crackers, then enjoy decorating the houses with candy. If you have an interested participant, please be sure to sign up in advance, either by visiting the Reader’s Services Desk or by calling us at 613-968-6731 ext. 2235.
If you are looking for an activity that the whole family can enjoy, be sure to come by on Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. to see The Puppet Tamer. Tim Holland will be bringing his ferocious and uncooperative puppets back to the library for a special program that all ages will enjoy. Tickets cost $2.50 per person, but children ages two and under can come for free. Be sure to come to the Children, Youth and Readers’ Services desk to purchase your tickets early for this show that you will not want to miss.
Don’t forget that we also have a large collection of holiday-themed books for children of all ages at the library. Call us at 613-968-6731 ext. 2235 to put a hold on any favourites, or come by to explore the holiday books we have on display.
