G-Hawks grab 2-1 series lead

The Trenton Golden Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the Ontario Jr. A Hockey League North/East Conference championship series with a 4-1 home-ice win over the Kingston Voyageurs Tuesday night at Community Gardens.

G-Hawks led 2-0 in the second period and never looked back.

Trenton now leads the best-of-seven set by a game with the next contest slated for Wednesday at the Invista Centre in Kingston at 7:30 p.m. Game 4 is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Community Gardens.

Michael Siddall and Braden Hellems (empty-netter) each scored a goal and added two assists for TGH while Brady Wiffen and Christian DiFelice counted the other local goals. Adam Brady, on the power play, scored the lone visitors goal.

Justin Kapelmaster turned aside 33 shots in the Trenton cage; Daniel Urbani made 37 saves for Kingston. G-Hawks were 2-for-8 on the power play; Kingston, 1-for-4.

The game ended on a nasty note and officials doled out 11 misconducts inside the final two minutes of play.

Attendance was announced as 930.
