VIQ: Celebrating our local volunteers

All volunteers are invited to join us on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Quinte Gardens Retirement Residence located at 30 College St. W., Belleville for our 13th Annual International Day of the Volunteer Celebration. Drop in and enjoy refreshments compliments of Quinte Gardens, Christmas Carols, congratulations from local dignitaries and our guest speaker.

This is a festive evening kicking off the Christmas season. We have numerous door prizes including the Grand Door Prize of a round trip for two to Quebec City compliments of VIA Rail Canada including two night accommodations from Williams Hotels and $200 meal allowance from the City of Belleville. Mark the date on your calendar and help us celebrate together, making our community a better place!

BCT requires volunteer drivers to transport individuals in the Quinte area to medical appointments locally and long distance. These runs may also include stops for necessities of life such as drug store, groceries, bank or post office. Mileage will be reimbursed.

Canadian Mental Health Association is seeking volunteers for their Assertive Telephone Outreach Program on Mondays or Tuesdays. Callers complete daily calls to consumers who are referred by the Crisis Intervention Centre (Quinte Healthcare). Training is provided and shifts are two hours long in the afternoon or the evening. Community Living Prince Edward is seeking friendly visitors who can build relationships and share skills with people they support. You can go on outing, enjoy a shared hobby or just visit.

Community Living Prince Edward is seeking a volunteer who is tech savvy who can provide support in teaching an individual they support how to use their Tablet device.

Food for Learning requires volunteers in Belleville, Trenton and Picton to put up and take down Feed the Meter signs. They will need volunteers on Saturday November 29th starting at 10 a.m. to put up the signs and on Friday, Jan. 2 to remove the signs.

The time commitment is only 1 hour on both of these days.

Gateway Community Health Centre is seeking play group volunteers in Tweed, Marmora and Madoc to assist with crafts, activities, interact with young children as they play and to help with room set-up and take-down.

Picton United Church County Food Bank is seeking a volunteer to share the food bank coordinator roll with an already existing volunteer. Tasks will vary, including: fundraising and promotion; co-ordinating and communicating the volunteers’ responsibilities and tasks; finding client self-sufficiency opportunities; stocking and organizing our small storerooms; and media communication. This volunteer position will require a commitment of about five to 10 hours a week.

The Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors is seeking thrift shop volunteers to work three-hour shifts to provide customer service, sorting and pricing, doing pick ups and small repair work.

The Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors Association is seeking volunteer drivers who can provide door-to-door transportation service to medical appointments and essential shopping. Reimbursement is provided.
