Tom takes on Iron Man Challenge to help special schools in Ghana and Ventnor

We wrote yesterday about Ventnorian Anita Young, who is out in Tamale, Ghana helping build a new special school.

Well another Ventnorian has recently visited and helped out at the same village, and he’s also raising money for the new school.

Iron Man fundraiser challenge
Tom George, who works at St Catherine’s school in Ventnor, spent a week in Tamale during the last half-term break. On 5th June he’ll be taking part in the Iron Man Triathlon in Venice to raise funds to be shared equally between the two schools.

You can show your support for Tom and the new special school by popping over to his Just Giving page and making a donation.

Tom says,

“On June 5th I will be attempting to swim 2.4 miles (the same as 152 lengths of a pool), then cycle 112 miles (the same as London to Brighton, and back) before finishing with a 26.2 mile run (the same as a marathon!). I’m hoping to complete all of this in around 12 hours.

“Any money raised will be shared equally between the St Catherine’s charity for young people with Speech, Language and Communication disabilities in the UK, and the setting up of a Special School in Tamale, Ghana.

“St Catherine’s makes a huge difference to the lives of lots of young people in the UK, and the school in Ghana will hopefully begin to do the same for young people with disabilities out there. I visited Ghana in February and am excited to see how the school there will develop. Any funds raised will be put to good use in both countries.”

Well done Tom and best of luck in Venice next week!
