Musical artists have a fine tradition of busking to generate income, which has been supported and even celebrated by the City of Hamilton. We as visual and sculptural artists are asking for the same opportunity to display and sell our work in public. 

Ideally, this program would include: 

A jury of peers to confirm artistic ability, to prevent fraudulent licensing.
A geared to income fee structure, the profits from which would be used to support the arts in Hamilton.
Granting permission for licensees to display/sell work of their own creation in public spaces, including city parks, properties, and sidewalks (provided no right of way is blocked)
Granting permission for licensees to display/sell work of their own creation at city-subsidized events and festivals at greatly reduced costs.
 

We as artists and supporters of the arts believe that allowing the Hamilton Arts community to spread its revitalizing influence to all areas of the city would be a force for positive change. Allowing the community more opportunity to support itself through direct sales will add to its sustainability, as well as increasing the awareness of arts in Hamilton.
