Ohio Governor John Kasich Not Interested In Being Vice President

WASHINGTON -- Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) isn't interested in doing anything halfway.

During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, Kasich said that if he ends up running for national office in 2016, it will be the presidency or nothing. If he feels that he lacks adequate resources or doesn't have a genuine chance of winning, he won't run at all, he said.

“This not like, ‘Well, let me try, if it doesn’t work I’ll try again, or if it doesn’t work I’ll be vice president.' I’m not interested in any of that,” said Kasich. “So either I feel like I can win, or there is no reason to do it.”

The governor added that candidates who take extreme, divisive stances are unlikely to find much success in Ohio, a state traditionally considered one of the key battlegrounds in presidential races.

“People that come in and want to divide are not going to do very well," said Kasich. "That’s because Americans are tired of all the divisions. They want to see solutions."

Kasich also warned that any Republican interested in vying for the White House should not underestimate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner.

“Of course she can win,” Kasich said of Clinton’s chances in Ohio. “She will be a very formidable candidate. Anybody that underestimates Hillary Clinton, I think, makes a mistake.”
