Ivanchenko drew the ire of animal lovers when she injured the 1-pound Maltese-Shih Tzu mix, put her in a bag and threw her from the car window in September 2014. The puppy was found by a good Samaritan and treated for multiple skull fractures and a traumatic brain injury.
Authorities said Ivanchenko didnt want to pay for the pups medical care and even went to purchase another dog as a replacement.
The sentence handed down today justly punishes the defendant for her cruel and sadistic crime, which was carried out against a voiceless victim, said Acting District Attorney Daniel Master Jr. Pets are a part of civilized society and, under our laws, are entitled to live free of abuse.
Master also said Ivanchenko never showed any remorse for her brutal act.
The dog, originally named Charlotte, received intensive care at the ASPCA. She has been renamed Pip and is thriving in a new home, officials said.

According to the criminal complaint, Ms. Ivanchenko told police, "Just give me my misdemeanor so I can get out of here. It's just a dog."
Ms. Ivancheko, 34, allegedly admitted in court documents that she couldn't afford medical treatment for the 3-month-old Maltese-Shih Tzu mix, who she named Snowflake, so she put the little dog in a bag and threw the injured animal from her car onto the side of the road in Bay Terrace on Friday.
The dog was renamed Charlotte after being rescued Friday.
"I was afraid for my daughter to get upset, so I got her a new dog," Ms. Ivanchenko says in the criminal complaint.
