There's a new machine that hopes to eliminate the need for a home bar. The team behind Somabar has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to produce a WiFi-enabled "craft cocktail appliance." The company promises that the machine can make a precise and consistent craft cocktail "in under five seconds."
To make a drink, users connect to the Somabar via an app and pick which drink they want to make. Then they must fill the Soma Pods — which are specialized containers that store ingredients — with the booze and mixers required. With a press of a button, the Somabar mixes the ingredients and pours the cocktail thanks to its internal system of positive displacement pumps and a static vane that creates "kinetic energy and turbulence.
The app is compatible with both iOS and Android, and the Somabar machine comes in a variety of colors. So far, the team has managed to raise $6,770 of their $50,000 goal, and the Kickstarter campaign has 48 days to go.
While the Somabar is meant for home use, a similar robotic bartending machine called Monsieur has been created for use in theaters, hotels, and beyond. Monsieur recently raised $2 million in funding, and the company promises that it will be in "at least three NBA arenas" this season. Human bartenders may very well soon be a thing of the past.
