Saint John Woman Wins National Award for Workplace Learning
SAINT JOHN – A Saint John woman is being recognized for her efforts in workplace learning.
Catherine Doucette brought home the National Volunteer Recognition Award from the Institute for Performance and Learning during its national conference in Toronto Thursday night. The Institute is Canada’s association for workplace training professionals.
“Catherine has demonstrated strong leadership at the chapter level by leading the launch of the New Brunswick Chapter and chairing it since 2011,” said Institute CEO Dr. Rob Pearson. “Her vision has continued to build and drive the NB Chapter forward. Dedicated members like Catherine are what make our organization so strong.”
Doucette operated the chapter on her own the first year, contacting nearly 1,000 people individually to let them know about the new chapter and organized all of its events. She has also facilitated instructional design, learning style, and presentation skills workshops at chapter or national events for the Institute. Under her leadership, the New Brunswick Chapter Executive represents companies in Moncton, Fredericton, and Saint John such as Innovatia, Salesforce, and Wyndham. Over the past four years, safety teams, corporate trainers, nurses, coaches, and managers in the province have learned about facilitation, training design, and e-learning at chapter events.
“I’m passionate about workplace learning because training professionals are in a unique position to grow our economy,” Doucette said. “Whether the topic is management skills or software, our role is to help your employees become better at their jobs. Higher productivity means stronger bottom lines, which leads to a healthier economy for all New Brunswickers.”
