No bail for Rajya Sabha MP booked in dowry death case

No bail for Rajya Sabha MP booked in dowry death case

Ghaziabad: A district court on Tuesday rejected the bail application of Rajya Sabha MP Narendra Kashyap, his wife Devendri and son Sagar, who are lodged in Dasna jail since April 7 following the mysterious death of his 32-year-old daughter-in-law.
The three were booked after Sagar's wife Himanshi was found dead with a gunshot injury on her head in a washroom of Kashyap's house in Sanjay Nagar on April 6.

After their plea was turned down by the court of additional district judge (I) Santosh Kumar Pandey, Kashyap's counsels said they will now move the Allahabad high court.
Earlier in the day, Sudhir Tyagi, counsel of Narendra Kashyap, argued that it was not a case of dowry death and that allegations of demand for an SUV from Himanshi's family were false. "Allegations that Narendra Kashyap's family demanded a Fortuner SUV are flimsy. The Kashyap family already owns several vehicles. Sagar and Himanshi were married in 2013.
A year later, the family purchased an Audi car. Narendra Kashyap had also gifted an Audi to his younger daughter on her marriage in 2015. The same year, his younger son also got married. However, no dowry demand from his younger son's in-laws was made," said Tyagi.

Kashyap's counsels further said Himanshi's death was a case of suicide and that her family members haven't been able to substantiate their claims of a dowry death.
Jiten Verma, the counsel of Himanshi's father Hiralal Kashyap, meanwhile, said, "The post-mortem report mentions about a contusion on Himanshi's forehead. Signs on her body indicated that she had been tortured. On March 25, she had also complained to her father about her in-laws demanding a Fortuner SUV and that she might be harmed if the demand is not met. Hiralal Kashyap has already given his statement to police."
The Ghaziabad police have said that a comprehensive forensic report is yet to arrive from Lucknow.
"Findings of the local unit of the forensic science laboratory in Ghaziabad, however, have been submitted. We are trying to gather more circumstantial evidence related to Himanshi's death," said DSP Manish Mishra, the investigating officer in the case.
