Turkey, Qatar sign military cooperation agreement

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Parliament announced Thursday it ratified a number of draft laws, including a military cooperation agreement between Turkey and Qatar over the deployment of joint forces between the two countries.

The cooperation agreement includes the exchange of operational training experiences, the development of military industries, conducting joint military exercises, and deploying joint forces between the two countries if needed, according to the statement.

Turkey concluded many military understandings and agreements relating to defense industries and military training and rehabilitation with most Gulf states, and the coming days would witness similar agreements with other Gulf countries, according to the statement.

The agreement has nothing to do with not understanding signed between Turkey and the United States about training and equipping the Syrian opposition or the activities of the US Central Command, based in Qatar, the Foreign Affairs Committee said in a statement.

The Turkish parliament is yet to vote on the draft law, the statement pointed out.
