Hamilton making headlines of its own

The Economist magazine has named Toronto as the best city in the world to live. The impressive ranking was based on a number of factors including liveability, safety and economic opportunities. While Toronto is getting all the attention internationally, from inside Canada, Hamilton is making headlines.

Hamilton’s transformation from a struggling, blue collar steel town to an ambitious multi-cultural, economically diverse city, has been a long, and arduous journey. One hundred years after the first coke oven fired up, Hamilton has carved out a new identity – it has become a destination for developers, manuafacturers, artists and entrepreneurs.

Hamilton city councillor Matthew Green agrees. “We are seeing lots of professionals moving in and enjoying some of our cultural assets here in hamilton. i think we’ll continue to see that especially since we have such an undervalued real estate market.”

Could the city that grew up in the shadow of Toronto shake it’s inferiority complex and stand on it’s own? Some say it already has.
