Olivier Aubin-Mercier's next weigh-in muffin idea? Add pot so his opponent can't win

Olivier Aubin-Mercier made a little bit of news at the UFC 186 weigh-ins, bringing muffins to offer his opponent, David Michaud, as well as UFC President Dana White.

It was a rare moment of charm in a process that usually involves intense staredowns and smack talk.

After Aubin-Mercier’s (6-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) win over Michaud (8-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at UFC 186, which took place at Bell Centre in Montreal, he spoke to MMAjunkie about the inspiration for the muffins. Unsurprisingly, wine was involved.

“I was at home with my girlfriend and I was like, ‘It would be funny if I bring, like, muffins to Dana White and my opponent,’” Aubin-Mercier said. “And she like, ‘Oh yeah, I think so.’ So I did it.

“I think, for me, it was pretty funny that a little idea I had when I was drinking wine did that. I don’t know what website put it on but a lot of people watched it.”

Many fans on the internet mentioned how easy it could be for a fighter to sabotage their opponent through tainted treats. The idea wasn’t totally lost on Aubin-Mercier.

“I was like, next time, I’m going to put some pot so that if I lose the guy is going to test positive so I can not lose,” Aubin-Mercier said. “It was just muffin with banana and chocolate. They were amazing. The thing is, they were supposed to be mine. I was going to give one to Dana, which he rejected, and to David. But when I went downstairs, after the weigh-in, every fighter said, ‘What is that? Can I have one? Can I have one?’ I was like, ‘Oh, ok.’ They were gone like in two minutes. I had just one.”
