Percy Harvin wants to play; Rex Ryan says it's 'a stretch'

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Percy Harvin expects to play Sunday. Rex Ryan isn't so sure about that.

Harvin, who suffered a low-ankle sprain in the New York Jets' loss to the Minnesota Vikings, didn't practice Wednesday. The veteran wide receiver added that he still hasn't started running on it, but he expressed confidence that he will play against the Tennessee Titans.

"I feel pretty good," he said. "I definitely think I'll be playing this week. It shouldn't be a problem. Once I knew it wasn't a high ankle sprain, I was able to start putting weight on it, so I knew the turnaround would be pretty quick. Once we got the MRI and knew it wasn't a high ankle, I knew my bounce-back period would be pretty quick."

Ryan said the swelling has subsided quite a bit, but he still wouldn't go so far as to say he expects Harvin to play. He called it "a stretch."

Harvin is coming off his best game, a six-catch, 124-yard, one-touchdown performance.

In other injury news, defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson (turf toe) did some work off to the side, but he didn't participate in any team drills. The hope is that Wilkerson, wearing a specially designed shoe, will be able to do more Thursday. Tight end Jace Amaro and linebacker Trevor Reilly -- both with concussions -- practiced in red (no-contact) jerseys. They could be cleared for contact Thursday. Safety Antonio Allen (broken hand) didn't practice, as expected. His status is in doubt.
