Recent security breaches have made data storage a hot topic. Lets look at some facts from 2013 to set the tone…

According to @symantec 253 security breaches in 2013 were up 62% from 2012, with increased social media & mobile targeting.

According to @symantec 552 MILLION+ identities were breached in 2013, including home & email addresses, logins & phone numbers.

According to @voicetrust almost 2/3’s of data breaches are caused by human error, and cost approx $160 per compromised record.

According to @voicetrust financial orgs topped data breached with 37% in 2013, retail and restaurants are next with 24% in 2013

I shared these stats to illustrate many people have some experience with data breaches & that does have a bigger picture effect.

Let’s discuss how security breaches can affect requesting and supplying data in the marketing world. Is #Print hack-proof?

Q1: How many people have had a personal security breach? What was it, and how was it resolved?
Q1a: Did that experience make you less likely to supply your data? Under what circumstances would you 100% trust the requesting source?

Q2: Approx what percentage of the work you do incorporates personalization and the use of data in some manner?

Q3: Does your business or company have a data security process in place? If yes, how often do you discuss it with customers/prospects
Q3a – ok lets reverse it – are CUSTOMERS ASKING about your data security in any manner?
Q3b: Do you have information about your data security processes or practices on your website or in your marketing materials?

Q4: Do you have a data back-up plan in place? Where would you look to find help implementing one?
Q4a: What about the data security for your OWN business? Payroll info, billing info, payment info… etc?

Q5: How could you help your customers securely collect and store data? Is there an opportunity for partnership or collaboration?
